- The Alabama
Quality Assurance Foundation, the state’s QIO, recently
helped more than 100 evacuees from New Orleans reconstruct their immunization
records and obtain missing vaccinations. The QIO provided Medicare card
covers -- business card holders, which help keep the user’s immunization
record card together with other Medicare and insurance cards.
- Counties
in Alabama increase mammography for African American women: Several
counties in Alabama have worked with the state’s QIO, Alabama
Quality Assurance Foundation, to reduce the disparity in mammography
utilization between African American and Caucasian Medicare eligible
females between the ages of 50 and 67. The goal was to decrease the disparity
in mammography utilization in Jefferson, Limestone, Mobile, Montgomery
and Tuscaloosa counties by increasing the number of mammograms obtained
by the African American population. In each of the intervention counties
the rate of mammography increased, the lowest by 3.10%, the highest by
13.88%.
