Johnson and Tibbits Join
American Health Quality Association
Washington , DC — Michele I. Johnson, MS, and Paul Andrew Tibbits, Jr., MPP, joined the American Health Quality Association (AHQA) this week as Senior Directors of Government Affairs. AHQA is the trade association representing the national network of Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs), which work hand-in-hand with providers, consumers, and other public and private organizations to help them ensure patient safety, adopt best clinical practices, and improve the reliability of health care delivery systems.
“We are very fortunate to have both Paul and Michele join AHQA’s senior staff,” said David Schulke, AHQA Executive Vice President. “Their backgrounds and breadth of experience perfectly compliment our public policy goals in representing the nation’s QIOs.”
Johnson and Tibbits will be responsible for representing AHQA and the national network of QIOs to Congress, administrative agencies, and other public and private organizations working to improve America ’s health care.
Michele Johnson
Ms. Johnson comes to AHQA from the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) where she served as Senior Government Relations Representative, advising members and lobbying Congress and administrative agencies on quality reporting and value-based purchasing issues. She was also instrumental in preparing MGMA members for participation in pay-for-performance initiatives. Prior to her position at MGMA, Ms. Johnson served as Government Relations Representative at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) where she formulated and advocated policies on issues related to quality reporting, quality measurement, and patient safety. She has also served as Legislative Assistant to two Members of Congress in the U. S. House of Representatives.
Ms. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, and a Master of Science degree from American University in Washington, DC.
Paul Tibbits , Jr.
Mr. Tibbits joins AHQA from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) where he served as Director of Policy and Strategic Alliances. While at the ADA , Mr. Tibbits led efforts to secure federal funding for diabetes research and public programs and in raising awareness of diabetes in various ethnic groups through national volunteer councils. He also served as the official ADA representative on multiple national advisory boards and in testimony before the President’s Council on Bioethics. Before joining the ADA , Mr. Tibbits served as a policy fellow in the office of a U. S. Senator.
Mr. Tibbits holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University in Princeton , New Jersey , and a Master of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in Boston , Massachusetts.
