National Organization for Health Care Quality Improvement Installs New President
Marc Bennett, 2007-2008 President of the American Health Quality Association
New Orleans , LA – Marc H. Bennett , MA, President and Chief Executive Officer of HealthInsight, a private, non-profit Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Utah and Nevada , assumed the position of President of the American Health Quality Association (AHQA) at the association’s annual meeting in New Orleans , LA , today. Mr. Bennett will serve as AHQA President until February of 2008.
AHQA represents the national network of QIOs, which work hand-in-hand with providers, consumers, and other stakeholders in every state and territory to help them ensure patient safety, adopt best clinical practices, and improve systems of health care delivery. As President, Mr. Bennett will provide leadership to the AHQA Board of Directors, and serve as ex‑officio, non‑voting member of all AHQA committees. He will also be the official AHQA spokesperson. Mr. Bennett previously served as Chair of AHQA’s CEO Section.
Mr. Bennett actively contributes to the advancement of health care quality improvement efforts both at the state and national level. Nationally, he is serving as a member of the Quality Alliance Steering Committee (QASC) Infrastructure Workgroup, which is working to design the national and local infrastructure needed to support federal efforts to promote value-driven health care.
At the state level, Mr. Bennett holds health care leadership positions in both states where HealthInsight serves as QIO. He is currently Chair of the Utah Patient Safety Steering Committee and previously served on the Board of the Utah Health Information Network and as a member of the Advisory Board of the Matheson Center for Health Care Studies at the University of Utah . He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Utah Public Health Association and as a member of the Utah State Health Policy Options Commission Workgroup on Quality and the Quality Technical Advisory Group of the Utah Health Policy Commission. In addition, Mr. Bennett chaired the Subcommittee on Quality of former Governor Leavitt’s Utah HealthPrint evaluation project.
In Nevada , Mr. Bennett serves as a member of the Nevada Center for Patient Safety Governing Committee. Previously, he served as a member of the Nevada State Legislature’s Interim Health Care Committee and as Board Chair for the Shared Health Information Network of Nevada.
Mr. Bennett received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Brigham Young University and is an accomplished essayist and fiction writer.
Mr. Bennett succeeds Sallie S. Cook, MD, corporate medical officer and senior clinical advisor for quality improvement initiatives and review activities at the Virginia Health Quality Center , the QIO for Virginia .
