| On February
1, 2006, more than 45 health legislative staff representing 26 Senate
offices, including the Senate Finance Committee; and the Senate Committee
on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; and the Congressional
Research Service attended an AHQA briefing on the QIO program.
At the briefing,
AHQA leaders discussed the mission of the QIO program, QIO goals for
their current contract cycle with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services (8th Scope of Work), and the inherent challenges of improving
the quality of care delivered to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide
with limited resources in a voluntary environment.
AHQA presenters
included President Jonathan Sugarman, MD, MPH, President-Elect Sallie
Cook, MD, Immediate Past-President Dale Bratzler, DO, MPH, CEO Section
Chair Marc Bennett, and AHQA EVP David Schulke.
